Although the GUI is plain and simple, it would be nice if you created a good looking GUI with a skinnable look to it - this would allow users to match the GUI with their desktop theme.

Skimping on the look of the program justs makes me feel that the developer has cobbled this together to make a fast buck. Investing some love and care into how the program looks is almost as important to me as the actual program. It shows the developer cares abou their software.
